NLINK BUILDS-UP THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

	This leader in the Petrochemical Industry operates a world-class facility in the Middle East. The plant where NLINK is deployed was commissioned late 1997 and includes a 650K MTA Ethylene unit, a 450K MTA Polyethylene unit (high density and linear low density); a 350K MTA Ethylene Glycol unit, and all of the necessary office and utility facilities to support it.

The plant is a huge complex where a relatively small number of highly professional and skilled staff operate and maintain a vast amount of equipment. The ability to automate the data collection aspects of the day-to-day running of the plant is key to its financial success.

THE BUSINESS PROBLEM The customer had an unsupported Wireless (RF) Bar Code Scanner-to-SAP interface already in-place that needed to be expanded and enhanced. The customer also wanted to replace their unsupported interface with one that could evolve with their business needs and leverage its use to some of their other business functions. THE NLINK SOLUTION NLINK® provided a rapidly deployable and complete out-of-the-box Automatic Data Collection (ADC) to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution. ADC to ERP deployments usually involve connecting some set of wireless data collection devices (such as an RF-based Bar Code Scanner, from companies such as Symbol Technologies and Intermec) to commercial ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle Applications. In this case, the deployment of NLINK allowed the customer to take back control of this part of its IT infrastructure. During customer acceptance testing the business users were trained in how to modify the NLINK configuration. Once deployed in production at the petrochemical plant, the customer was able to make functionality enhancements and to upgrade NLINK to a new major release without any assistance from Junot. Junot’s ability to perform a completely remote NLINK deployment was key to providing the customer with a low cost integration solution despite their overseas location. Junot’s Professional Services group implemented the solution in six man weeks, replacing and enhancing a custom system that had taken 48 man months of on-site development. NLINK’s Rapid Application Integration (RAI) approach clearly provided the best available solution to this customer’s problem.
